CVT METHOD
My approach to teaching is based on the physiology of the voice. Our first step as singers is to gain awareness of our body as an instrument, before we start ‘playing’ it. Understanding what its parts are and how they interact to produce a sound, allows us to safely perform specific actions to sing the way we like. Rather than being passive listeners to our voices, our aim is to actively control it, shape it as we wish and enjoy using it.
I follow the theoretical and pedagogical guidelines of Complete Vocal Technique, a genre-free, critical method that relies on scientific research and was developed by Danish singer and researcher Cathrine Sadolin. CVT’s strong suits are its efficiency in practice, as well as clarity of terminology. By addressing the single elements that constitute our instrument, it explains how we can use them to our advantage, giving us clear directions on what to do with our body to obtain a specific sound. This method is used worldwide by professional and semi-professional singers, vocal coaches and speech therapists.

While applying theory to practice, you should never forget the reason why you want to sing in the first place: to express yourself! In my experience, singing with emotion is more important than singing flawlessly, yet powerful expression goes hand in hand with solid vocal technique. It’s the ultimate means of achieving complete freedom of sound and expression.
If you want to know more about this method, download the CVT app on your phone, following this link.
The app features clear and easy explanations of vocal technique for all music styles, pedagogical illustrations, singing exercises, sound examples, and research. It updates automatically, and it’s available in 3 languages (English, Italian, Mandarin Chinese).

Launching the CVT app in italian with Cathrine Sadolin
Together with my amazing colleagues Francesca Pichierri and Micaela Bruno, I have translated the app into Italian as part of our project, ‘CVT Italia’! Check us out on cvtitalia.com.
